Attack Relentlessly!

These sessions cater to Pins and Middle Hitter players, focusing on enhancing approach techniques, resilience in attacking from any court position, and developing a more powerful, quicker and faster arm swing. Emphasis will also be on ball placement, reading defenses, court awareness, and refining decision-making skills to better adjust to the setter. Players will also learn how to recover quickly after a missed attack and maintain a positive mindset throughout. Sessions will work on building mental toughness, handling pressure, and overcoming obstacles during attacks.

Run the court

Sessions are tailored specifically for setters. Players will focus on mastering footwork to optimize their set from any position on the court, regardless of the pass quality. They will also develop wise decision-making skills to distinguish themselves, enhance defensive play, increase court awareness, and learn to create and call plays.

Additionally, these sessions will also cover the important role of communication on the court. Setters and defensive specialists must work together closely to ensure a successful play. This includes not only verbal communication, but also nonverbal cues and signals that can be used to effectively communicate with teammates.

Frustrate Pins ... be a Joykill!

Everything begins with a pass! These sessions are crafted specifically for defensive specialists and liberos. Players will refine their skills in accurately reading hitters and passing effectively to support the setter's position. They'll master absorbing powerful attacks that often result in a kill and converting them into playable balls, and forcing attackers to find open spaces. The focus is on anticipation and maintaining an upright stance rather than diving to the floor. Once players gain confidence in their passing abilities, they can explore and practice more advanced techniques. Anticipation, the skill of predicting what comes next, is crucial in volleyball. It enables players to read and foresee their opponents' actions. This ability is vital for defensive specialists and liberos, as they must accurately predict where the ball will land after an opponent's attack.

Frequently asked questions

This program is designed for the player who wants that competitive edge and desires to practice outside of practice to hone and perfect their skill. This additional training gives them more reps and deeper insight into the game than what can be accomplished during team practices and allows for more in-depth training for players who want it and desire to go to the next level.

RVC’s philosophy is “Play to Win” this means putting the best line-up on the floor, at the Coach's discretion believes is the best roster at that time that best positions the team as a collective, to obtain victory.  The combination of players at any given time to give the team the best chance to win, can and likely will change from match to match and day to day.  Team line-ups are strictly at the coach’s discretion.

Protecting and maintaining the integrity of our beliefs and values are paramount for us. We believe that players always get out, what they put into their training, and the more reps they get only helps.  This is a long winded answer to say ... "Play time is ALWAYS earned" and athletes should never join Grindstone with the sentiment of "Paying to Play"  For over a Decade we routinely have starters who do not attend Grindstone but their hard work and talent warrants their presence on the court despite their participation in Grindstone.  Starting lineups are decided without prejudice or bias, including, but not limited to; athletes enrollment and participation in our Grindstone program.

Athletes should only join RVC's Grindstone program under their own volition to get better and not under any complusion that participation in the program will equate to more play-time on the court based solely on the merit of participation and attendance in Grindstone.

Enrollment in; Work I, II, III is a season long commitment and requires a full financial obligation, this includes a "No Refund Policy". We design and budget our tiers of membership, that incur costs and can't be recouped. Beyond than that and more  importantly, enrollment in Grindstone is a reflection of one of our core values and sets the tone for our commitment to finishing what is started, regardless of hardships that may lay ahead.

We offer a drop-in and a month-to-month option for those who are unsure whether they can or want to make the season long commitment, whether it's due to logistics, practicality, or still just feeling out their commitment to the game.  We provide several opportunities to explore what works best for our players and their families.
