The League

The Grinders Rock League is a youth athletic initiative that's more than just a game - it's a comprehensive volleyball experience for young athletes looking to serve, set, and attack their way to success. Our league is specially designed to introduce the sport to newcomers and nurture the development of future volleyball stars.

Players age 6+ and up are welcomed, The League offers a friendly and thriving community where young athletes can discover  and realize their potential.

A New & Growing Program

As The Rock League is just launching, we’re experiencing some natural “growing pains,” including team age group mismatches. For example, you may see teams made up of 1st and 2nd graders competing against 5th and 6th graders. This is temporary and will improve as our league grows and more families join.

What to Expect

  • All practices and games take place at THE ROCK
  • Teams are formed in-house and compete only against other Rock League teams.
  • Matches may involve age group mismatches
  • As the league grows, divisions will become more balanced.

Our Foundational Principles

We focus on development, teamwork, and communication. Here’s what your athlete will learn:

  • Three Touches: Emphasis on using all three touches (pass, set, hit) before sending the ball over the net.
  • Understanding Positions: Players start learning different on-court roles and responsibilities.
  • Serving Skills: We work toward proficiency in overhand serving for all players.
  • Teamwork & Communication: Building strong team and communication skills both on and off the court.
  • Growth Mindset: Encouraging effort, learning from mistakes, and celebrating progress.

Game Format for Mismatched Teams

To ensure matches stay fun and positive for everyone, we use special rules when there’s a significant age or skill gap:

  • Consecutive Serve Limit:
No player may serve more than 5 consecutive points. After 5, the next server rotates in.
  • Mandatory Rotation & Equal Playing Time:
All players rotate through all positions and get equal playing time.
  • Coaching Support:
Coaches use timeouts for teaching and encouragement, and may agree to bonus points or adjusted starts if needed.

Who Is the Rock League For?

  • New to volleyball: A supportive, no-experience-needed environment for your child to learn and have fun.
  • Experienced athletes from other sports: If your child is accustomed to high-level competition in another sport, but new to volleyball, they may find the pace and intensity of the Rock League to be less rigorous. It’s important to set realistic expectations and focus on the league's primary purpose: skill development and enjoyment of the game. For those seeking more competitive play, our Club teams may be a better fit and option to explore.
  • Everyone interested in volleyball: Whether you’re here for fun or as a stepping stone to more competitive opportunities, you’re in the right place.
